Running a successful business takes up just about every spare moment of your time. Whether you’re responding to emails, working on a new marketing strategy, sending out invoices or signing checks, there’s often very little time left over for anything else. For this reason, many business owners put social media on the back burner. Unfortunately, this can place you at a distinct disadvantage with your competition.
The good news is, there are ways you can manage your social media presence without having to dedicate hours of your time. In fact, the following strategy can have you mastering the art of SMM in just 20 minutes each day. Here’s what we recommend.
5 Minutes: Listen and Engage
The first few minutes of your social media time block should be dedicated to perusing the comments and other interactions on your various social profiles. Check your Facebook notifications, look to see if you’ve received any @ mentions on Twitter, read through the comments on LinkedIn, etc. and respond accordingly. Once you get into a routine, this shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes each day.
5 Minutes: Monitor
After you’ve read and responded to any interactions on your social profiles, the next step is to take a few moments to learn what the buzz is in your industry. You can speed up this process by searching with certain keywords and hashtags. You may also choose to set up a Google alert that will notify you via email any time your brand (or whatever keywords you’ve designated) is mentioned online.
7 Minutes: Share Content
Now that the listening/monitoring piece of the puzzle is complete, it’s time to share some content with your audience. You don’t have to spend hours digging up juicy links, just pick a few resources that you feel your audience might find useful, such as your most recent blog post, an educational infographic or a funny meme. It’s also a good idea to use a social scheduling tool so that your updates are spread out over the course of the day.
3 Minutes: Measure
To make sure you’re on the right track, you should be regularly measuring results. Just about every popular social platform offers some type of analytics that allow you to quickly and easily identify what types of posts are getting the most engagement so that you can modify and optimize your approach moving forward.
Social media marketing doesn’t have to take up a huge portion of your busy schedule in order to be successful. It just takes a targeted, strategic and well-planned approach. By following the guideline above, you can easily fit your SMM into your daily schedule and start getting results.
